Pilot Project · Living Lab · Hands-on Learning Space

Rumah Maiasaura is the pilot project and living laboratory of Kompos Kultur. It is a space where compost systems, regenerative landscapes, and community learning are practiced as part of everyday life.

Rather than a showcase, Rumah Maiasaura functions as a place to test, observe, adapt, and learn — allowing systems to evolve through real use before being shared or scaled elsewhere.

Rumah Maiasaura

Living Lab in Practise

At Rumah Maiasaura, composting is not treated as a separate activity, but as an integrated part of living, gardening, learning, and gathering.

Systems are continuously observed and adjusted based on material flow, user behavior, climate, and ecological response. This practice-driven approach allows lessons to emerge naturally — from successes, challenges, and daily routines.

Zonation System

The space is organized into functional zones that support learning, accessibility, and practical use. The zonation design based on the permaculture principle and we applied plant companion method to maintenance ecosystem balance.

01

Library

A quiet space for reading, discussion, documentation, and reflection. This zone supports learning through observation, dialogue, and shared knowledge.

02

Multipurpose Space

A flexible area used for workshops, gatherings, meetings, and community activities. Designed to adapt to different group sizes and purposes.

03

Composting House

The heart of the living lab. This zone hosts various compost systems, including microbial composting, anaerobic processes, and system experiments supported by Probio.

04

Herbs & Flower Garden

In these zone, we focus on planting flower and herbs. The main purpose is to increase more natural polinator like butterfly and bees, as well as control the pest through planting herbs in the garden

05

Regenerative Farming

A regenerative garden and small farming area where compost outputs return to the soil, supporting food production, biodiversity, and land regeneration. This integrated farming system is fully organic.

RUMAH MAIASAURA

Accessibility & Inclusion

Rumah Maiasaura is designed to be accessible and inclusive. Circulation, learning activities, and facilities consider diverse physical abilities and learning needs, ensuring participation is open and welcoming.

RUMAH MAIASAURA

Programs & Activities

Activities at Rumah Maiasaura are built around participation and practice rather than demonstration alone. We offer range variety of activities that support sustainable living system and education.

Workshops & Learning Sessions

Hands-on learning sessions designed to reconnect people with ecological knowledge and traditional practices. Participants engage directly with topics such as composting, seed saving, natural building, herbal processing, and regenerative gardening—learning by doing in a real living system.

Sustainability Trip

An immersive journey that goes beyond tourism, inviting participants to experience daily life through a sustainability lens. This program weaves together local culture, food systems, waste management, and community practices to offer a deeper understanding of regenerative living

Residency and Volunteering

A longer-stay program for individuals who want to contribute while learning. Residents and volunteers become part of the daily rhythm of Rumah Maiasaura—supporting ongoing projects, experimenting with ideas, and exchanging knowledge in a collaborative environment.

Education

A structured learning pathway tailored for schools, communities, or organizations. This program focuses on building awareness and practical skills around sustainability, encouraging participants to apply what they learn within their own ecosystems.

Visit & Garden Tour

A guided exploration of the space, introducing visitors to the principles, systems, and stories behind Rumah Maiasaura. From compost culture to edible landscapes, the tour offers a snapshot of how small-scale practices can create meaningful environmental impact.

Garden to Table

A sensory experience that connects the garden directly to the kitchen. Participants harvest fresh ingredients and transform them into simple, nourishing meals—celebrating seasonality, local flavors, and the relationship between soil, food, and health.

Seeds Saving for the Future

The seed saving and seed swap movements are vital for strengthening ecological resilience, cultural continuity, and community independence. By preserving and exchanging local seeds, this initiative protects biodiversity that is increasingly threatened by uniform commercial agriculture, while ensuring crops remain adaptable to changing climates and local conditions.

Seed Bank

Seed banks act as living libraries that safeguard local and traditional plant varieties for future generations. By carefully collecting and storing seeds, they protect biodiversity that is increasingly at risk from industrial agriculture and environmental change, ensuring that valuable genetic resources remain available for communities to grow, adapt, and thrive.

Seed Preservation

Seed preservation is the practice of selecting, processing, and storing seeds to maintain their quality and viability over time. This careful stewardship ensures that each planting season begins with strong, healthy seeds while also carrying forward the knowledge, characteristics, and resilience of locally adapted crops.

Seed Swap

Seed swapping creates a space for communities to exchange seeds, knowledge, and stories. By keeping seeds in active circulation rather than static storage, this practice strengthens local food systems, fosters collaboration, and nurtures a shared sense of responsibility for preserving biodiversity and cultural heritage.

RUMAH MAIASAURA

Why Its Matter

01.

Practise Before Scalling

Rumah Maiasaura is our pilot ground—a small, living laboratory where ideas are tested, refined, and proven. What works here can then be replicated and adapted into larger systems with integrity and confidence.

02.

Learning by Doing

We believe knowledge grows through practice. By engaging directly with composting—touching, observing, and experimenting—we build real understanding rooted in experience, not theory.

03.

Join our Movement

This is more than a place—it’s a growing movement. By joining, you become part of a collective effort to transform waste, restore soil, and reshape our relationship with nature.
